Here's the skinny on kitchen faucets. Sooner or later they will leak; even a quality brand like Price Pfister. Think about how much you use your kitchen faucet. It would be a miracle it didn't leak. A leaking or dripping faucet is no sign for panic. It just means that a part is worn out and has to be replaced, which ain't a big deal, as they say in the trade. Some type faucets are prone to leaking more than others. For example, compression faucets have washers and seals that break down under the constant pressure. Left to leak too long a leaky faucet can lead to stained sink bowls, rusty fixtures, the whole nine gallons. Plus, you'll be wasting a lot of water, which can cause a spurt in your water bill. Disc, cartridge, and ball faucets on the other hand don't have washers, so they tend to hold their water more consistently. This does not mean that they never leak, however. The moving parts in these are sealed by O-rings. When one of these wears out, you will notice leakage coming from the base of your faucet. If you see your cartridge faucet leaking, it most likely means you got a worn or busted O-ring. Don't bother trying to find an O-ring to fix it. Just replace the cartridge with one that is identical. One size does not fit all.
Here's the rule of thumb for buying a replacement part for your Price Pfister faucet: Unless it says Price Pfister, don't buy it. Why? Three reasons:
Price Pfister is a major faucet manufacturer renowned for developing uniquely graceful designs and technical innovations. Recently, the company developed a filtration faucet, known as the “Pfilter Pfaucet (what else?), that dispenses filtered water directly. You don't have to buy any extra water purifying hardware or accessories. The filtering faucet pretty much looks and works like your standard kitchen faucet, except you can switch from unfiltered to filter mode just by pressing a button. You can do your everyday washing chores unfiltered, and save your filter for cooking and drinking.
In the filter mode, water is channeled through the replaceable filter in the faucet head itself. The water comes out of the spout filtered for taste and odor, with 95% of the chlorine removed. By the way, in case you were wondering, filtered water never comes in contact with the unfiltered. They flow their separate ways through two discrete channels engineered into the faucet heads. Naturally, the flow of filtered water will be slower than the unfiltered flow. It has to get through a tough filter, after all. Speaking of which, the average family should get about 200 gallons of water filtration to a cartridge. That works out to about three months.
When selecting a new faucet for your kitchen, it pays to goo with a known name brand, like Price Pfister. (pronounced "Fister", the P is silent.) They have been a fixture, so to speak, in the faucet business for over 90 years. Price Pfister offers high-quality kitchen & bar, tub & shower, and lavatory faucets, as well as kitchen and bath accessories. All backed by the Pforever Warranty®, one of the most comprehensive (and unpronounceable) warranties in the industry.
